Sunday, my Mom and I went to the advance screening of Asterix: The Mansions of the Gods, thanks to a draw held by the French Embassy. It turned out to have been well worth my while to register: the film is a very good rendition of the 1971 "bande dessinée" (a format somewhere between a comic book and a graphic novel). It was faithful to the spirit of the original, but with enough variations to kee the interest of a viewer who had read it many times. Most of the gags have aged well--the advantage of a work set in the year 50 B.C.E. The 3D effects weren't excessive, so that even people who suffer from vertigo would be able to enjoy it.
I write seldom in French, so this was an opportunity to practice!
